It is almost inevitable that your carpet will fall victim to some form of stain. But it can sometimes be hard to know the best method of removing that stain without leaving any everlasting damage to your carpet. Whether it’s a grease stain, a wax stain or perhaps a red wine stain, here are our top tips for taking care of your carpet:
Don’t Rub The Carpet Stain
When something spills on your carpet, your first reaction may be to panic, grab the nearest cloth and start trying to rub away the stain. Avoid doing this at all costs. Rubbing the stain can actually make it look much worse, as it will be ground into the carpet fibres, it can also spread the stain further if not done correctly. Therefore, you should blot the stain using a clean cloth, sponge or kitchen roll.
How To Deal With Grease Stains
Grease stains can be extremely difficult to deal with if you are unsure of the correct method of removal. It is advised that you add a couple of droplets of grease-cutting dishwashing detergent to a cup of water, then add this to a spray bottle. Spray the stain and then dab it with a cloth, you may need to repeat this if the stain is particularly large.
The Baking Soda & Vinegar Technique
If you are a cat or dog owner, you’ll know that sometimes even the best-trained pets can still end up having accidents. If your pet does leave a ‘potty spot’ on your carpet then the recommended advice is to pour on some vinegar and then sprinkle on some baking soda. Then watch as the stain disappears as the baking soda and vinegar fizzles away.
How To Deal With Wax Stains
Although a wax stain isn’t as likely as a wine or grease stain, if you regularly use candles it is a possibility that the wax may somehow fall onto your carpet. If this is the case, then it is recommended that you place a white cloth over the wax stain and proceed to place your heated iron on top (for no more than 30 seconds). Once you’ve heated up the wax, you should be able to scrape it away using a butter knife.
Deep Clean on a Regular Basis
It’s essential to give your carpet a thorough deep clean on a regular basis, especially if you have pets or people frequently walk across your carpet with shoes on. If you have a loop pile carpet, we’d suggest using the suction head only, as beater heads and brushes will catch and lift the fibres, which may give your carpet a bobbled effect over time.
